“Yesterday is but a dream, and tomorrow is only a vision.  But a today well-lived makes every yesterday a dream of happiness and every tomorrow a vision of hope.”

Today, many Americans are waking up to uncertainty. Whether you agree or disagree with last night’s election results, the fact remains that America has been set on a new four-year journey. What pans out for our future remains in the realm of the unknown.

The fact of the matter is, even with a new (or returning) President, our financial and economic future does NOT rest in the hands of ONE man. His job is to provide a solid economic and foreign plan, guidance, motivation and act as our figurehead in front of the world.

We as American still control our own future. We have the power. If we decide to put our destiny in one man, we deserve whatever the outcome may be. I must say going into this election my mind was not made up until I stood in the polling booth. Sometimes, decisions boil down to the lesser of too bad choices. But that is what democracy is all about, to have the option to make that choice.

Taking charge of our own destiny and success requires a mental toughness that requires discipline and a consistent effort to move forward despite the roadblocks set before us along the way. Challenges are part of the success landscape. They are not reasons to give up but rather to learn, grow and expand. Key to successful maneuverability lies in our ability to foresee the challenges and being prepared to deal with them.

There are several action items to take into consideration when confronting challenging circumstances.

  1. Be prepared through internal and external monitoring and analysis.
  2. Develop a strategic plan to manage and minimize risk.
  3. Always have a back up plan.
  4. Take criticism as a source of constructive criticism and not a personal attack on your abilities
  5. Believe in yourself and know your strengths and weaknesses
  6. Take charge and accept responsibility for your own mistakes as well as successes.

The easiest cop out when hit with challenges is to blame or complain. The hardest things to do is accept what is in front of you, rethink your strategy to get out from behind the challenge that faces you, and move forward.
